ISO 9001 Audit Support

Construction & Property Maintenance

SectorConstruction & Property MaintenanceServiceDiscovery & ConsultancyStatusCompletedCommitment4.5 daysEngagedDecember 2025

A regional construction business failed their ISO 9001 Stage 2 audit with ten non-conformities to address, a hard deadline, and the imminent departure of the manager who had led the effort. AppleBoar resolved it in 4.5 days. The submission came back with zero changes.

The Problem

A regional construction and property maintenance business came to AppleBoar having failed their ISO 9001 Stage 2 audit. The auditor had identified ten issues requiring a formal Corrective Action Plan before resubmission.

The situation was time-critical. The business had a hard deadline before the Christmas holidays, with ISO 9001 certification needed to strengthen upcoming tender applications in the new year. Compounding the pressure, the senior manager who had been leading the compliance effort for the previous nine months was moving on. The business needed to get the submission over the line and ensure the process was properly documented for whoever picked it up next.

The Process

AppleBoar began with a management team session to understand the business context and map the gaps against the auditor's findings. This was followed by a series of 1:1 sessions with members of the team across operations, finance, and site management.

The analytical work was powered by Google Gemini and NotebookLM. Existing compliance documentation was loaded alongside the ISO 9001 standard requirements, and NotebookLM was used to gap-hunt, identifying precisely where the documentation fell short and proposing corrective approaches for each non-conformity.

Gemini then generated a suite of draft policies, trackers, registers, and meeting frameworks as templates for the management team to review and approve. Every AI-generated document was subject to human sign-off before distribution. This kept full governance and accountability over the outputs throughout.

Once approved, documents underwent a final gap-hunting pass before being distributed company-wide and uploaded to the client's compliance platform in preparation for resubmission.

The Solution

A complete suite of 15 compliance documents, produced and uploaded to the client's compliance platform. A comprehensive Wrap Report was also produced, documenting the engagement and setting out all ongoing compliance commitments, giving the business a clear, transferable record of what had been done and what was needed to maintain accreditation going forward.

The Impact

  • Full ISO 9001 certification achieved, giving the business the accreditation needed for upcoming tender applications.
  • Zero non-conformities on resubmission. The auditor returned no changes, having previously flagged ten issues across three major and seven minor categories.
  • Submitted 6 days ahead of the agreed deadline.
  • Delivered in 4.5 days of AppleBoar time, resolving a compliance challenge that had been in progress internally for nine months.
  • Compliance approach fully documented and ready to hand over, reducing the risk of knowledge loss.
"We got Rob Balderstone in to help with our ISO 9001 accreditation, and he knocked it out of the park. Using AI, he introduced a level of speed and accuracy that literally saved us weeks of work. Beyond the tech, Rob's personal approach is what got us over the line. He is a clear communicator, incredibly pragmatic, and genuinely went above and beyond to understand our specific needs. Thanks to his assistance we submitted ahead of schedule, and passed accreditation with no additional comments or feedback for improvement. I can't recommend Rob, and AppleBoar highly enough."

AI-Powered Content Production Platform

Video Production Agency

SectorVideo ProductionServiceBespoke Platform with AI Built InStatusLive; ongoing developmentLocationGreater Manchester

A video production agency wanted to offer content strategy alongside production but had no repeatable process for it. AppleBoar built a seven-step AI platform that takes a client conversation all the way through to content-ready scripts, pausing at each step for human review.

The Problem

A video production agency with an in-house studio wanted to differentiate in a crowded market. Hundreds of agencies will record your video and cut it for social media; far fewer will also plan your content, understanding your business, your audience, and your goals before a camera is ever switched on.

The agency wanted to own that space. The problem was that the entire content planning function lived in the founder's head. It was manual, ad hoc, and unsustainable, a bottleneck that couldn't be handed off or scaled.

The Process

The engagement began with a workflow mapping session. AppleBoar's preferred starting point is to map the client's entire end-to-end process before touching any technology, tracing every step, node, and decision point, then identifying where the real pain is. What's manual? What's slow? What requires disproportionate effort for its output? This focus on the most painful steps, rather than the most visible ones, is central to how AppleBoar works.

With the workflow mapped and the highest-friction steps identified, the build began, but not with a platform. Individual prompts were written for each stage of the workflow and tested manually across multiple AI models, evaluating outputs against the client's expectations for tone, relevance, and content quality. Only once there was confidence in the prompt suite and a preferred model were these assembled into a platform.

The resulting tool is a seven-step web-based workflow that takes a single client conversation all the way through to content-ready scripts. The workflow stops and waits at each of the seven steps: the client reviews the output, course corrects if needed, and only then advances to the next stage. This human-in-the-loop design is intentional. No step proceeds on the basis of a flawed output from the step before, keeping quality high throughout the generation chain.

The Solution

A fully functional, self-hosted seven-step AI content production platform, independently operable without ongoing AppleBoar involvement.

  • Takes structured client intake information as its input
  • Runs it through a configurable multi-step prompt workflow
  • Produces content-ready video scripts as its output
  • Gives the client full control over system prompts, model selection, and per-stage temperature settings
  • Is independently operable without ongoing AppleBoar involvement

The Impact

This engagement created a capability that didn't previously exist. The previous state was an entirely manual, person-dependent process with no consistent structure. Since launch, the platform has been used successfully across multiple client engagements, with strongly positive feedback from the agency's clients on the quality of the content it produces. Phase one has been delivered, with further development planned.

Professional Portfolio Website

Policy Researcher & Media Commentator

SectorPublic Policy / Think TankServiceBespoke Website, Built Using AIStatusLive and ongoing

A senior research director with a decade of published work had no single place to point people to. AppleBoar had a working demo ready in 10 minutes and the site live shortly after, with new articles taking under 30 seconds to add.

The Problem

A senior research director and media commentator with a decade's worth of published work (articles, reports, and opinion pieces across education, health, social mobility, and the workplace) had no single place to collect it. Despite regular appearances in national media and a substantial body of published output, there was no obvious destination for journalists or professionals looking to find her work.

She wanted an organised professional library: one URL she could share with confidence as a single source of truth. The additional constraints were practical. This was a self-funded project, and the solution needed to be low-cost and low-maintenance.

The Process

The scoping conversation was short by design. AppleBoar's approach is to get requirements on the table quickly and move, avoiding over-engineering a solution the brief doesn't call for.

The requirements were clear: a clean, searchable single-page site where new articles could be added easily and linked to their original sources. Filtering by type, subject, year, and topic was important for usability. Speed, simplicity, and cost were equally important constraints.

The Solution

The site was built using AI-assisted development tooling, compressing the build timeline dramatically. A working demo was ready in approximately 10 minutes. Design and functionality were refined iteratively from there. A custom intake form was built to the client's exact requirements, capturing all the metadata and imagery needed for each article. Adding a new piece to the site takes under 30 seconds. The site is fully managed by AppleBoar on an ongoing basis, so the client has no technical overhead.

The Impact

  • Working demo in approximately 10 minutes from the start of the build.
  • New articles added in under 30 seconds via a bespoke intake form.
  • The site is in active use as the client's professional portfolio destination, publicised across her social media channels.
  • Delivered within a self-funded budget, at a fraction of the cost and time of a conventional web build.
"Rob has been invaluable in helping me establish and grow my digital presence. When I needed a portfolio website to showcase my policy research work, he leveraged AI to have a working demo ready in just 10 minutes — and made it so simple that I can now add new articles in under a minute. What I appreciate most is his pragmatic, problem-oriented approach. He never oversells solutions but instead finds cost-effective options that match the actual scale of my needs. His ability to harness AI tools means I get enterprise-level results without enterprise-level costs or timelines."

Social Copywriter and Podcast Transcript Tools

Finance Consultancy

SectorFinancial ConsultancyServiceBespoke Platform with AI Built InStatusLive and in active use

A finance consultant couldn't get external writers or AI to reproduce his voice. AppleBoar first talked him out of the solution he thought he wanted, then built the one he actually needed.

The Problem

The founder of a lean, high-value finance consultancy was spending more time on marketing copywriting than he wanted to. He'd tried outsourcing social media content but found that neither external copywriters nor AI could successfully capture and reproduce his tone of voice. The copy never felt authentic, and it didn't connect with his audience. Writing it himself worked, but it was a disproportionate drain on his time for someone deliberately running a low-overhead business.

The Process

The client originally approached AppleBoar about a different problem: an AI-powered chatbot for his website to onboard prospects, collect documentation, and book meetings.

After a structured conversation covering scope, current cost, and how well his existing solution was actually working, AppleBoar advised him not to build the chatbot. The current process was performing well. Beyond the upfront build cost, the client hadn't accounted for what comes after launch: AI integrations don't run themselves. Models update, outputs drift, and a tool that behaves correctly on day one can quietly degrade without ongoing evaluation and optimisation. Factor in a potentially fragile integration across several existing tools, and the return on investment simply didn't stack up.

That recommendation built trust. Knowing AppleBoar would push back when something wasn't the right call, the client felt confident exploring other areas of the business together. Marketing copywriting quickly emerged as the highest-friction problem worth solving.

AppleBoar configured access to its proprietary Author Platform, a multi-step AI prompting tool built around the client's voice, content formats, and audience. The platform was deliberately tuned to avoid the hallmarks of generic AI copy: stilted phrasing, unnatural sentence structure, and the patterns that make AI-written content immediately recognisable. The output reads like the client wrote it.

The Solution

A configured instance of the AppleBoar Author Platform, used independently by the client and his marketing manager, with no ongoing AppleBoar involvement required for day-to-day use.

  • Social copy generation from a range of input sources, producing platform-ready marketing content in the client's voice
  • Podcast transcript processing, converting episode transcripts into structured, predefined marketing outputs

The Impact

The client and his marketing manager now use the platform in monthly planning sessions, producing and scheduling a full content calendar in advance. An entire month of content has been planned, written, and scheduled in a single session. Engagement on social posts has improved noticeably, with the client regularly receiving direct feedback from contacts who have read and responded to the content, content that no longer requires his direct involvement to produce. In the client's own words, he "basically doesn't have to get involved in copywriting anymore, which has saved me a hell of a lot of time." That has opened up appetite to tackle other repetitive, time-consuming tasks across the business in the same way.

AI-Powered Bid Writing Platform

Construction & Property Maintenance

SectorConstruction & Property MaintenanceServiceBespoke Platform with AI Built InStatusLive and in active use

A construction business submitting 200+ tenders per year had the volume but not the capacity to do them well. AppleBoar built a bid writing platform trained on 45 years of the company's own submissions.

The Problem

A regional construction business submits north of 200 tender applications per year. The process involves the MD, administrators, quantity surveyors, pricing professionals, and an external marketing consultant, each contributing real hours to every submission.

By the MD's own estimate, he spends approximately half a day answering the qualitative elements of each tender: quality management, social value, and the non-pricing questions that have grown in importance and weighting year on year. The pricing and programming work adds further cost on top. The marketing consultant then takes as much as a further half day to pull the finalised responses, case studies, and imagery into a coherent document.

This created two compounding problems. First, the resource burden: cumulative time across the team was enormous, submissions regularly went to the wire, and busy tender periods put the team under serious pressure. Second, the win rate: the team had been so consumed by submission volume that there was no structured time to step back and analyse performance, what was working, what wasn't, and whether quality or pricing was affecting outcomes. The business was running fast but flying blind.

The Process

Following a detailed discovery session, AppleBoar identified an overlooked asset: the business had been operating for 45 years and held an extensive archive of previously submitted tenders, along with records of which had been won and which had been lost.

Working from that historical foundation and the deep business context already held within the AppleBoar platform, AppleBoar developed a structured bid writing capability informed by the company's own track record, writing style, and proven approaches.

Following successful proof-of-concept work, the solution was built into the AppleBoar Author platform as a dedicated bid writing module, accessible to the wider team.

The Solution

The team now has access to a collaborative bid writing platform that dramatically reduces the time and effort required to produce high-quality tender responses. The platform guides users through the submission process, drawing on deep company context, historical bid data, and the specific requirements of each tender to produce responses that are accurate, comprehensive, and written in the company's voice. Multiple team logins allow the MD and his colleagues to work on submissions together, replacing a fragmented, time-intensive manual process with a structured, repeatable workflow.

The Impact

The MD's time spent writing bid responses has been considerably reduced. The quality of those responses has improved, with submissions demonstrating stronger coverage of question requirements and more consistent alignment with the company's positioning and track record.

Commercial outcome pending public announcement.

Client Management and Operations Portal

AI Training and Governance Consultancy

SectorAI Training & Governance ConsultancyServiceBespoke Platform with AI Built InStatusLive and in active use; ongoing development

A growing AI consultancy had outgrown spreadsheets. AppleBoar delivered a fully functioning, production-ready operations platform in 20 working days, at a fraction of what a conventional agency build would have cost.

The Problem

A growing AI consultancy delivering bespoke training and governance work to clients across the UK had outgrown its internal tooling. Operations were spread across spreadsheets, shared documents, and the founding team's institutional knowledge. Once a client moved from sales into delivery, information became fragmented, recorded in multiple places, difficult to share with associates in the field, and placing an increasing admin burden on the internal team.

The client experience was inconsistent, and the business needed a solution that was properly future-proofed. With data security non-negotiable in a sector where clients include charities and regulated organisations, cutting corners on infrastructure was not an option.

The Process

The client had already invested time in early product thinking before engaging AppleBoar, working through initial requirements and user stories with a product consultant. AppleBoar picked up from there, beginning with structured conversations to establish what the platform needed to achieve and how success would be defined.

Much of the early project was spent on foundations before any build began. This meant working through the underlying data model in detail (what data would the platform hold, how it would be structured, who could view or edit it) and making deliberate infrastructure choices that balanced technical complexity, cost, and long-term scalability.

With requirements locked, AppleBoar built a working visual prototype so the team could see, feel, and react to how the platform would behave before committing to a direction. Only then did the build begin.

The build was AI-assisted throughout, with all code and infrastructure decisions reviewed and signed off by experienced software engineers before reaching production. This approach captured the speed and cost efficiency of AI-driven development without sacrificing confidence in security, stability, or scalability.

The value of the early groundwork became clear mid-build: when the client identified an additional feature requirement, the robust planning documentation allowed the team to pivot quickly and incorporate it without disruption.

The Solution

A secure, scalable internal operations platform that acts as the operational backbone of the business, giving the team a single place to manage all client delivery. Associates in the field have access to the information they need for each session, client-specific materials are stored centrally, and the internal team can manage the full delivery lifecycle in one place. A client-facing portal is in active development, with further features in the pipeline.

The Impact

  • Working prototype within one week of the engagement beginning.
  • Fully functioning, production-ready platform within one month, secure, stable, and scalable.
  • Built in 20 working days from intro call to active production use, a fraction of the timeline a traditional agency model would require, where months are routinely spent in design and wireframing before a single line of code is written.
  • Considerably lower cost overhead compared to a conventional software development engagement.
  • Actively used by multiple members of the internal team to manage client delivery.
  • Internal admin burden reduced; information is centralised and accessible to the right people at the right time.
  • Ongoing development continues, with the client-facing portal launching imminently.
