Where We Came From
Hi, I'm Rob Balderstone.
Jazz musician, turned events manager, turned performance marketer, turned product manager, turned founder.
I started AppleBoar because I was working at tech startups, and benefitting from incredible operational efficiency thanks to AI tools. Non-techie founders at my co-working space kept asking the same question: "I've got this problem… can AI help?" The answer was usually yes, but they needed help with the 'how'.
These were capable business owners feeling left behind. Not because they lacked capability, but because the AI landscape is confusing, noisy, full of jargon, and generally hard to trust.

AppleBoar is for founders and leaders who want to benefit from the efficiencies that AI can offer, without being burned by big fees or ineffective tools.
I focus on helping small to medium-sized businesses with heavy computer-based workloads. This often looks like repetitive, onerous tasks, or complex but document-oriented work such as bids and tenders.
Most clients aren't AI-sceptics, they're simply too busy to gamble on something new. They've heard about AI "hallucinations" and think, "I can't afford errors; I need reliability." So we start small. We solve one meaningful problem, measure the real-world outcome, then decide together whether it's worth tackling the next one.

How We Work
My background spans marketing, product, and commercial leadership. That means every solution is evaluated through a holistic, business-first lens; not just what's technically possible, but what's commercially appropriate.
AI isn't always the right answer. Sometimes you need a deterministic (predictable) result, and I'm still an unashamed fan of a well-structured spreadsheet! There's also a powerful middle ground where we use AI to build you a tool, but the final result runs without any AI capability at all.
Durability and safety can't be delegated to a language model. That's why every project is validated and signed off by seasoned developers. You benefit from the efficiencies of AI without sacrificing security, stability or control.
